PPIU

The Power Plant Interface Unit (PPIU) is a power plant monitoring system installed and operational in the following ESTRACK stations: Kiruna (Sweden), Redu (Belgium), ESOC (Germany), ESAC (Spain), Kourou (French Guyana) and Cebreros (Spain). The core of the PPIU system is the suite GMCT, which provides the real-time monitoring and control capabilities.

It operates as an autonomous system or it can be integrated as a part of an integral station control system. Specifically, for the Kiruna station the PPIU system is integrated within CSMC.

It offers a set of capabilities that eases the in-situ and remote users’ duties. The most representative features are:

• Real-time monitoring of power plant status

• Adapted user interfaces for data displaying and operations

• Real-time data logging for post-assessment

• Alarms detection, logging and propagation via email and as SMS.

• Cold redundancy and balanced load in terms of nodes

• Automatic recovery in case of a power cut-off.

• Remote WEB access for stored data.

• Automatic data reporting accessed by WEB and sent by e-mail.
